Sophie Faldo
Sophie is a baker, cake designer, presenter and media personality. She found fame on The Great British Bake Off where she won the title in 2017.
Since winning the show, Sophie has appeared on Lorraine, various radios shows including RTE 1, BBC Radio 5 live, Talk Radio and has been published in The Telegraph, The Sunday Times, The Irish Independent, The Mail on Sunday, OK magazine, The Radio Times, Delicious magazine and numerous others. She was shortlisted for The Women Of The Future Awards 2018 where she received a special commendation in the Media category. She was commissioned to make the 9-tired cake for the 80th anniversary of HMS Belfast, prepare a VIP banquet with Grosvenor casinos in collaboration with Angelica Bell (winner of Celebrity Masterchef) and curate an afternoon tea in association with Laurent Perrier. She also regularly demos at regional and national food shows including The Ideal Home Show at Olympia.
Keen to continue her culinary education, she interned at the 1 Michelin-starred ‘The Glasshouse ‘under Chef Berwyn Davis and Raymond Blanc’s 2 Michelin-starred ‘Le Manoir Aux Quat-Saisons ‘ , under Chef Benoit Blin MCA.
Sophie is the owner of the successful Sophie Faldo Couture Cakes which produces wedding and celebration cakes and dessert catering for special events. She has had her cakes featured in Hello! magazine and is lucky to count celebrity actress Sunetra Sarker as one of her happy clients.
Sophie has been keen to develop her interests as a TV and Radio presenter. Since her stint in the tent, she has appeared in the adventure food and travel show, Travel With A Goat, has been involved in the development of other cookery shows such as The Cycling Chefs and has appeared as a co-presenter on Talk Radio and BFPS Radio.
Having commissioned from The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 2007, Sophie served as an Officer in The Royal Artillery which included tours of Afghanistan. She continues to serve in the Army Reserve and amongst the many roles she has undertaken, she most recently successfully completed the rigorous selection and training to become a JTAC and now serves as the only female in the UK Armed Forces in this role, calling in air strikes from fast jets and attack helicopters.
Sophie is also keen fitness enthusiast, sportswoman and adventurer. She was an elite athlete in both rowing and track cycling, winning multiple age-group national titles and medals at elite-level national championships. She continues to train for the British Stunt register with her disciplines including: Taekwondo, Horse Riding, Scuba Diving and Rock Climbing, and regularly travels out to the Alps in winter to teach alpine skiing and ski mountaineering.
2020 has (alongside working with some of her favourite baking brands) seen Sophie supporting The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and also spearheading the Veterans Railcard launch , which took place in October.
2021 has been very busy with Sophie’s’ many military commitments , alongside her ‘Sophie Faldo Couture Cakes ‘ business leading to spots on Talk Radio (reviewing the current news )for early Breakfast show which have been very well received. Regular features in The Daily Express , re thoughts on Bake Off TV 2021, alongside Sophie’s especially designed ‘Christmas Recipes ‘ for the festive Express pages ,has brought the year to a super finish. 2022 is offering many new exciting opportunities for this very talented young woman.
